GAVIA

Gavia is a cantilever-style coffee table that takes a piece of Canadian heritage and uses it as a centerpiece of socialization. Through the use of hidden mechanics, the option for storage within rooms becomes seamless with hidden drawers that rotate in a winged fashion from the contained top.

Process

PHASE 1

Phase one included creating a mood board to outlining trends of current furniture design and outlining how to position this piece to be unique. Within this was consideration of an inspiring cultural icon and how to embody this through movement.

PHASE 2

This was the initial drawing leading to low-fidelity models. This assessed scale, form, and proportions before adjusting the final design, and thus the final model.

PHASE 3

Phase three was making the design digital. Using SolidWorks and KeyShot, I was able to create a detailed model to reference for each individual piece, measurement, and to replicate how it would look and move within a space.

PHASE 4

As the final step in completing the development of Gavia, I had to build a model to prove the concept, the design, and the woodworking skills I have that bring out my attention to detail.
